How to Install PS4 Games (Jailbroken Console)

This guide covers installing PKG files on a jailbroken PS4. It assumes you already have a working jailbreak — this isn't a jailbreak setup guide.

If your console isn't jailbroken yet, check the firmware version and look up the appropriate exploit for it.

Before you start

Check your firmware version

Every game PKG has a minimum firmware requirement. If your console's firmware is lower than what the game requires, it won't install.

Check: Settings → System → System Information → System Software

Make sure your firmware version meets the game's requirement before downloading.

Enable HEN

Fake PKGs (FPKGs) require HEN (Homebrew ENabler) to be active. HEN needs to be re-enabled after every reboot.

Before installing anything:

  1. Navigate to your exploit entry point (varies by firmware)
  2. Enable HEN
  3. Confirm HEN is active — you'll usually see a notification

Never try to install an FPKG without HEN active. The console will reject it.

Getting the files

PS4 games on this site come as:

  • Base game PKG — the game itself
  • Update PKG — patch that updates the game to a specific version (sometimes required for the game to boot)
  • DLC PKGs — optional, install after base game

Download what you need. For most games you want at minimum the base + update.

Transfer methods

USB drive

The simplest method.

  1. Format a USB drive as exFAT
  2. Create a folder called PS4 at the root, then a folder called FPKG inside it
    • Path: USB:\PS4\FPKG\
  3. Copy the PKG files into FPKG
  4. Plug into your PS4
  5. Open your package installer (GoldHEN Package Installer, Debug Settings, or similar depending on your setup)
  6. Navigate to the USB and install

Network transfer (FTP/remote package installer)

Faster for large files if your PS4 and PC are on the same network.

  1. Enable FTP server on your PS4 (via GoldHEN or payload menu)
  2. Note the IP address shown
  3. Use an FTP client (FileZilla works) to connect: ftp://[PS4_IP]:2121
  4. Upload PKGs to the appropriate folder
  5. Install via the package installer

Alternatively, use a Remote Package Installer — a homebrew app that lets you install PKGs directly from a URL or local PC without copying files first.

Install order matters

Always install in this order:

  1. Base game PKG first
  2. Update PKG second
  3. DLC PKGs last (optional)

Installing the update before the base game will fail. Installing DLC before the base game will fail. Don't skip the order.

After installation

Games appear in your library like any normal PS4 game. Launch from there.

Some games require the update to be installed before they'll boot — the base PKG alone will crash or show an error. If a game crashes immediately after launch, install the update if you haven't already.

Common issues

"Fake PKG not recognized" / won't install

HEN isn't active. Reboot, re-enable HEN, try again.

"This content cannot be used"

Firmware version mismatch — the game requires a higher firmware than you have. If your jailbreak doesn't support that firmware yet, you're stuck until a new exploit releases.

Game crashes on launch

Missing update PKG. Install the update for the game and try again.

Installation fails midway

  • Not enough storage space — PS4 needs the PKG size plus overhead for installation
  • Corrupted download — re-download the PKG
  • USB formatted incorrectly — must be exFAT, not NTFS or FAT32

Save data not working

Saves on jailbroken consoles are tied to account IDs. If you're using saves from another console or account, you'll need to resign them with the appropriate tool.

CE-34878-0

Generic crash error. Usually means a bad dump, missing update, or firmware incompatibility. Check the game's required firmware, install the update PKG, and try again.
